New Fist of Fury [Arrow Films - review] UPDATED

Post by Scott_Napier »

Some observations on Eric's overall excellent review of the Arrow Films Blu-ray of 'New Fist of Fury' (https://www.dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=7551).

1. two hour = hyphenate.
2. Columbia/TriStar = Columbia TriStar.
3. Eastern Heroes' 2002 DVD featured the export version which had been shortened by roughly ten minutes, = I don't know if it was an export version (possibly just cut).
4. Cine Asia's Hong Kong Legends special edition release only featured the shorter Cantonese cut with the Mandarin track re-synched to it. = The Mandarin track on the 1980 version (used here) is different to the one found on the longer version. Was released by Hong Kong Legends as well before the Cina Asia reissue.
5. Germany's 2014 Splendid Film Blu-ray featured both Mandarin and Cantonese cuts of the film but upscaled from Fortune Star's older SD masters = I would say 1976 and 1980 cuts because there are soundtracks for each. The 1976 one may have been sourced from the Columbia TriStar DVD.
6. but we have no idea as to the master of the English-dub-only Scandinavian release from last year. = it's the 2K master of 1976 one, according to your website.
7. The same masters have been used for Arrow Video's US-only 1080p24 MPEG-4 AVC 2.35:1 widescreen Blu-ray. = can you double-check this? Arrow may have done some restoration work.

Could we have a section on this forum to comment on reviews, please?

Fixed 1-6. I would have to hunt down my copy of the 88 (I might have lent it out during lockdown but I'm pretty sure I got everything back).
